The Boston Breakers withstood a barrage of first half shots, but collapsed in the second half of their season opener with Seattle Reign FC to suffer a 3-0 loss on Sunday\u00a0at Memorial Stadium in Seattle, Wash.<\/p>\n

Boston goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher faced a firing squad of chances, making seven saves on 10 shots on goal. But she was unable to stop Kim Little from scoring twice and Meghan Rapinoe from putting away the third goal moments before the final whistle blew.<\/p>\n

The Breakers struggled to muster any attack, putting only two shots on target and losing the overall count in shots 23-4. Joanna Lohmann hit the crossbar off a feed from Heather O’Reilly in the 31st minute for the Breakers best chance of the game.<\/p>\n

Seattle were awarded a penalty kick in the 49th minute after Courtney Jones handled the ball in the penalty area. Little converted on the ensuing spot kick for the 1-0 lead, firing to the upper left corner of the net past the outstretched reach of Naeher.<\/p>\n

Little tallied again in the 54th minute, going in behind the defense on a freekick from behind half-field by Rapinoe and slipping the ball past Naeher, who was well off her line.<\/p>\n

Rapinoe’s goal came in the 88th minute as she ran into the penalty area and darted past Cat Whitehill and Jones. Rapinoe then slipped past Naeher and fired a shot past into an open net 3-0 lead.<\/p>\n

The Breakers were second to Seattle throughout the game, though they prevented them from scoring in the first half. Both of Seattle’s goal in the run of play were easily fixable, though the defense looked noticeably lethargic.<\/p>\n

Boston’s next game is April 20th, their home opener, versus the expansion Houston Dash. Kickoff is set for 6:30pm.<\/p>\n
