Teresa Noyola’s 85th minute penalty strike sent the Boston Breakers to 3-2 loss against the Houston Dash at Harvard Stadium on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Noyola, who came on in the second half and also scored in the 81st minute, was afforded the opportunity to grab the game-winner after Courtney Jones fouled Rafaelle Souza inside Boston’s area in the waning minutes. From there, the Dash midfielder hit her shot into the top corner.<\/p>\n

“It’s a tough pill to swallow tonight,” Breakers coach Tom Durkin said in team release. “Credit to Houston for hanging in. I think we stepped it up at the start of the second half and had the run of play, but we really didn’t create enough scoring chances from that.”<\/p>\n

While the Dash capitalized late, it was the Breakers who’d make their statement early. In the opening seconds of the match, Heather O’Reilly grabbed a pass from Lisa De Vanna and after the initial shot was denied, O’Reilly pushed it through.<\/p>\n

All was quiet near the Breakers’ net, where Alyssa Naeher was hardly bothered by Houston during the first half. The second half, however, was another story – for both sides.<\/p>\n

In the 50th minute, Ella Masar equalized after she followed up a Tiffany McCarty rebound that Naeher couldn’t corral. <\/p>\n

Twenty minutes later, the Breakers responded when O’Reilly crossed it for Joanna Lohman, who elevated over her defender and headed it past goalkeeper Erin McLeod in the 70th minute.<\/p>\n

Noyola, who entered the game in the 75th minute, scored six minutes later after she collected a pass from Souza and chipped it past Naeher in the 81st minute.<\/p>\n

The Dash substitute scored her second four minutes later to keep the Breakers winless on the 2014 season. <\/p>\n

“Coming home, our expectations were a little bit higher,” Durkin said. “I think at the end of the day, we can play better than what we played today. It was a tough loss.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
