Diego Fagundez bolstered his case to make coach Fabian Coito’s final\u00a0South American Youth Championship\u00a0roster by scoring\u00a0for the Uruguay U-20s in\u00a0a\u00a03-0 win over local side Canelones.<\/p>\n

Fagundez scored\u00a0the third goal\u00a0in the 47th minute\u00a0of the\u00a0second 60-minute scrimmage against Canelones at Martinez Monegal. Gaston Pereiro and Franco Acosta joined Fagundez on the scoresheet in the final scheduled scrimmage ahead of the tournament.<\/p>\n

The Revolution midfielder’s goal was his second of the week during the squad’s series of scrimmages. He scored and collected two assists against Colonia in a 3-0 win\u00a0on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Coito is expected to announce his final 23-man\u00a0roster for the\u00a0South American Youth Championship, which will run from\u00a0Jan. 14 through Feb. 7,\u00a0next week.<\/p>\n

Should Fagundez make the roster and see the field for the U-20s during the tournament, he would no longer be\u00a0eligible to play for the U.S. Men\u2019s National Team since he is not currently a U.S. citizen.<\/p>\n
