Former Rhode Island Stingrays and University of Rhode Island midfielder Dawid Badecki died on Monday in his native Poland. He was 30.<\/p>\n

Badecki\u00a0spent three seasons with the Stringrays (2006-2008), playing in 28 games while scoring seven goals and chipping in six assists. His best season came in 2006, a year in which he scored seven goals and added two assists in 14 games.<\/p>\n

Badecki started all 78 games he played in at the University of Rhode Island from 2004-2007. He scored 12 goals and added 13 assists during his time in Kingston, R.I. In 2006, he was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team, and helped\u00a0steer the Rams to an Atlantic-10 title.<\/p>\n

He was a teammate of current U.S. Men’s National Team defender Geoff Cameron at the University of Rhode Island, as well\u00a0as with the Stingrays.\u00a0On Monday, Cameron\u00a0posted his reaction to Badecki’s death on Facebook.<\/p>\n

“At a lost for words right now,” Cameron posted. “Just lost a former teammate, roommate and an amazing friend! Rest in peace Dawid Badecki can’t stop thinking about all the memories I have with you, ones I’ll always hold close to my heart! #<\/span>57sakonnet<\/span> love you broski #<\/span>rhodyram <\/span>#<\/span>soccerfamily”<\/span><\/p>\n

During his three seasons with the Stringrays, Badecki was a fan favorite, and often spent time after matches signing soccer balls and interacting with the club’s youngest fans. He also served as a camp counselor at the Stingrays Summer Camps.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
