It appears that neither of the Revolution’s top two midfielders will be suiting up for preseason action this winter.<\/p>\n

With Jermaine Jones already slated to miss regular season action due to sports hernia surgery performed on Feb. 10, Revolution coach Jay Heaps confirmed on a teleconference with the media on Friday that Lee Nguyen underwent “a\u00a0procedure” for an undisclosed injury.<\/p>\n

“(It’s) more of a preventative (measure),” Heaps said. “He\u2019s progressing well as we speak.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the preseason,\u00a0clubs are not required to reveal injury information to the media.<\/p>\n

Though Heaps did not\u00a0disclose the nature of the his midfielder’s ailment, Nguyen\u00a0did have elastic therapeutic\u00a0tape on each side of his right knee during his\u00a0appearances against Chile\u00a0(Jan. 28)\u00a0and Panama\u00a0(Feb. 8)\u00a0while with the U.S. Men’s National Team.<\/p>\n

The tape\u00a0can be\u00a0used to reduce pain due to joint inflammation.\u00a0While some medical experts\u00a0contend that\u00a0it\u00a0does\u00a0little more than\u00a0provide a placebo effect to the user,\u00a0some athletes claim that the tape does\u00a0have medical benefits.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Last week, Revolution striker Charlie Davies, a longtime friend of Nguyen, mentioned that the 2014 MVP finalist was less than 100 percent healthy following his stint with the U.S.<\/p>\n

“I think he has a couple of little nagging injuries that he had with the National Team,” Davies said.<\/p>\n

Though Jones’ recovery time for his sports hernia surgery\u00a0was\u00a0set for 4-6 weeks after the procedure was completed, Heaps was mum on Nguyen’s return.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t want to rush to any timetables, because we want to make sure that they\u2019re healing, and that they come back at the right time without pushing them,” Heaps said. “But both players are progressing well.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
