The Boston Breakers bolstered their midfield on Monday by signing Stephanie Verdoia ahead of its season opener against the Portland Thorns on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Verdoia, who was selected by the Breakers in the fourth round of the 2015 NWSL College Draft, was the club’s preseason assist leader (3), and played in all four preseason matches.<\/p>\n

“She\u2019s a very good, young talent and is super composed. She\u2019s wise beyond her years,\u201d Boston Breakers head coach Tom Durkin said in a club release on Monday. \u201cShe shows a lot of promise and poise, and she had a really good start. She really picked it up toward the tail end of the Florida trip.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to her selection in January’s NWSL draft, the 22-year-old midfielder was a two-time Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year at Seattle University. She finished her college career as the school’s all-time leader in goals (51) and points (132), and set the Redhawks’ single-season scoring record in 2014 with 22 goals, which also placed her second in the nation in Division 1 college soccer. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to play professional soccer, but I didn\u2019t know if I\u2019d ever be able to because there are so many good players in this league and in this country,” Verdoia said in a club release. “I think the Breakers have a really talented team, so being given the opportunity to play with these girls and be a part of this organization is mind-blowing.<\/p>\n
