Boston Breakers goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, who won 2014 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year, will be representing the U.S. Women’s National Team at this summer’s Women’s World Cup in Canada.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old keeper received her first cap in December, and was recently called up for the Algarve Cup tournament, was named to the 23-player World Cup roster on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am incredibly excited about being named to the roster and going to my first World Cup this summer,\u201d Naeher said in a club release. \u201cThis is such an amazing opportunity and something I have been working toward for a long time. It is always an honor to represent the U.S., and to be able to do that with my teammates at a World Cup is a blessing and an experience I will never forget. It has been quite a journey already, and I am looking forward to the next chapter.\u201d<\/p>\n

Naeher will join a number of former Breakers for the tournament, including Heather O’Reilly, Meghan Klingenberg, Kelley O’Hara, Sydney Leroux, Lauren Holiday and Amy Rodriguez.<\/p>\n

The U.S. will face Australia, Sweden and Nigeria in Group D at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The U.S. opens against Australia on Jun. 8 in Winnipeg, then Sweden on Jun. 12 in Winnipeg and will wrap up group stage play against Nigeria on Jun. 16 in Vancouver.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe players selected have the confidence, experience and desire to help us win a world championship,\u201d said U.S. Women’s National Team coach Jill Ellis in a statement. \u201cWe had an excellent group to pick from and at the end of the last camp, I complemented all the players on how much they pushed each other and competed to make this selection challenging.”<\/p>\n
