Revolution defender Darrius Barnes was placed on the disabled list on Friday and will be sidelined for six months after undergoing surgery on his left knee in Boston.<\/p>\n

Barnes, who suffered the injury during the club’s 0-0 draw to Columbus Crew SC on Apr. 11, underwent successful surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon in his left knee on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old defender missed the Revolution’s game at Philadelphia on Apr. 19, and was downgraded from “questionable” to “out” on the latest injury report.<\/p>\n

By placing Barnes on the disabled list, the Revolution are able to open up a roster spot to fill the void in their backline. The loss of Barnes is a considerable blow to the defense considering that he is able to play anywhere across the backline.<\/p>\n

After Barnes filled in for a suspended Jose Goncalves at center back against Montreal on Mar. 21, Revolution coach Jay Heaps told the media that his versatile defender is “the kind of player that helps a coach to sleep at night.”<\/p>\n

With Barnes out for an extended period of time, the Revolution are left with six defenders at their disposal, two of whom are coming off of injuries (Goncalves and Chris Tierney).<\/p>\n
