FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – After filling their previous two international roster spots with seasoned European internationals, the Revolution went in the opposite direction on Friday\u00a0with the\u00a0signing of 18-year-old Nigerian midfielder Michael Augustine.<\/p>\n
Augustine, who hails from Kano, Nigeria, played for FCT Abuja in his native country. The 5-10 midfielder, who is a product of Abuja’s youth system, made his first appearance for the first team in 2008.\u00a0During his time with the first team, Augustine scored 18 goals and helped in the club’s promotion to the Nigerian Premier League in 2009. Additionally, he was a member of the team that won Nigeria’s FA Youth Cup.<\/p>\n
\u201cMichael is a young midfielder who we believe can have a promising future in our league,\u201d Revolution Vice President of Player Personnel Michael Burns said. \u201cHe has pace and will add to the depth we have in the midfield this season.\u201d<\/p>\n
Augustine joined the Revolution in Kennesaw, GA, this morning\u00a0for the club’s 11-day preseason trip, which includes two matches against Columbus and another against Houston.
