Jozy Altidore scored twice within a nine-minute span to send the United States to a 2-1 win over Peru in Friday’s international friendly at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n

Altidore, who also wore the captain’s armband for the match,\u00a0tallied his first in the 59th minute before finding the sheet again in the 68th minute to counter Daniel Chavez’s 20th minute goal for Peru.<\/p>\n

With the win, the U.S. improved its mark t0 3-2-1 all-time against their South American adversaries.<\/p>\n

Peru went up early when Andre Carrillo squared a ball for Chavez, whose shot deflected off of Omar Gonzalez before it settled into the back of the net inside of 20 minutes.<\/p>\n

Revolution midfielder Jermaine Jones, who played in his first match for the U.S. since Feb. 8,\u00a0struck a shot from distance in the 39th minute that required a strong effort from keeper Diego Penny to lift it over the bar.<\/p>\n

After Brad Guzan was called upon to make a slew of saves, the U.S. finally leveled it just before the hour. After Altidore was cut down inside the area, he was granted an opportunity to send it through from the spot. Although his initial attempt was denied by Penny, the striker followed up the rebound and sent it through.<\/p>\n

Altidore took it upon himself to get the go-ahead, as well. He latched onto a low cross from\u00a0Gyasi Zardes and volleyed it through in the 68th minute to send the Yanks on their way to victory.<\/p>\n

The U.S. will return to action on Tuesday when they face Brazil at Gillette Stadium for another international friendly. Kickoff is schedule for 8:00pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
