FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – A\u00a0familiar face is back\u00a0in town to kick the ball around.<\/p>\n

Former Revolution Youth Academy product Gabe Gissie was spotted training\u00a0with senior team on Wednesday. The 18-year-old striker,\u00a0 who emigrated from his native Liberia to Worcester, Mass. as a child<\/a>, has spent the last two seasons with the USL’s Sacramento Republic FC, which signed him prior to the 2014 season.<\/p>\n

Gissie notched an assist in 14 games with the Republic during his rookie season in 2014, helping his squad win the league championship. He played in 14 games this year, scoring a goal and adding an assist while wearing the no. 9 shirt for the California outfit. Their season recently ended after losing to LA Galaxy II in the USL Conference Quarterfinals.<\/p>\n

The Liberian international spent three seasons in the Revolution Youth Academy before he made waves in Feb. 2014 by signing with the Republic instead of pursuing\u00a0college soccer as a Homegrown-protected prospect. According to a report, Gissie felt he was ready to turn pro at age 17 with the Revolution, who owned his MLS rights as an Academy player. But the organization was not ready offer him a deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe told (the Revolution): look, we got offers for our players,\u201d Ana Barcellos of Soccer Sport Network (SSN), a global agency that formerly represented Gissie, told TotalMLS.com in Feb. 2014<\/a>. \u201cIf they come for us, and if we see that they have the talent for that, and if we have the opportunity and we want the player to take advantage of this opportunity, we\u2019re going to go for it. So, what do you guys want to offer Gabriel Gissie at this point?”<\/p>\n

Gissie is currently a free agent, and is now represented by Global Premier Management. The Revolution still hold his MLS rights.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
