The PDL officially welcomed the addition of FC Boston Bolts to its national roster of 67 clubs for the upcoming season on Thursday, with the storied youth outfit filling one of the biggest sports markets in the country.<\/p>\n

The Bolts, which was founded in 1986, will be coached by the organization’s Executive Director of Coaching Brian Ainscough, and will compete in the Northeast Division of the PDL.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a tremendous opportunity for FC Boston,\u201d Ainscough said in a league release on Thursday. \u201cThe Bolts have developed some of the best players in New England, and this is a much needed pathway in our club development pyramid.\u201d<\/p>\n

The club’s alumni includes current Revolution coach Jay Heaps, as well as Revolution players Charlie Davies and Chris Tierney. In addition, former Revolution assistant Paul Mariner once served in a coaching capacity for the Bolts.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe PDL is excited to bring in the FC Boston Bolts, who have been a part of New England\u2019s development landscape in previous forms for the past three decades,\u201d PDL Director Todd Eason said in a league release. \u201cWe anticipate some strong rivalries among the Northeast Division, and the addition of the FC Boston Bolts to the mix will further contribute to the division\u2019s and the league\u2019s high caliber of play.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mount Ida College in Newtown, Mass. will serve as the Bolts’ home grounds for the upcoming season. The club will inherit the PDL territory once inhabited by the Boston Rams, which dropped out of the league after three seasons.<\/p>\n

FC Boston will kick off its debut PDL campaign at home on May 14 against Seacoast United Phantoms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
