Sporting were kept off the board\u00a0this week by\u00a0Guimaraes, who played the Leoes to a\u00a00-0\u00a0draw. Their best scoring chances came after the 75th minute when Guimaraes defender Josue was sent off after picking up a second yellow. Sporting peppered Guimaraes keeper Joao Miguel, but he held his own and had made every stop and intervention to prevent any goals.<\/p>\n
One thing that certainly didn’t help Sporting in their battle against Guimaraes was the absence of\u00a0their skipper,\u00a0Adrien, who missed the match after picking up an injury last week in training.<\/p>\n
Following wins by rivals Benfica and Porto, only four\u00a0points now separate the top three teams, with Sporting’s\u00a0lead over Benfica now at only a single point, just in time for the highly-anticipated Lisbon Derby on\u00a0Saturday.<\/p>\n

This is the second straight occasion in which Sporting was eliminated from the Europa League by a German team. Last year, Wolfsburg eliminated Sporting 2-0, which came not long after the Leoes were eliminated from the Champions League group stage by Jermaine Jones’ former side, Schalke 04.<\/p>\n SPORTING B<\/strong><\/p>\n The B team has been suffering from their own bad form lately, and that trend continued this weekend.
