FOXBOROUGH, Mass. \u2013 The Revolution offense showed signs of life, but weren’t able to deliver the knockout punch in a 0-0 draw to DC United on Saturday at Gillette Stadium.<\/p>\n

Lee Nguyen fired a game-high four shots in the direction of goalkeeper Travis Worra, but finding the DC net proved to be too tough a task for an offense that found plenty of chances.<\/p>\n

With the result, the Revolution picked up their second straight draw of the season (0-0-2) while United collected their first point of 2016 (0-1-1).<\/p>\n

Quick hit analysis:<\/strong> Well, at least the defense kept up its end of the bargain. Jose Goncalves and Je-Vaughn Watson were rocks in the rear, snuffing out DC’s best chances. Despite outshooting United 17-7, the Revolution were unable to capitalize in front of the home crowd, something that coach Jay Heaps won’t be happy about, especially with wide-open looks from Lee Nguyen and Kelyn Rowe in the second half that probably should’ve been buried. The first-half injury to Charlie Davies surely didn’t help matters up front, but with plenty of attacking options outside of their starting striker, the Revolution simply had to be better with their shots in the final third.<\/p>\n

Stat of the match:<\/strong> Saturday’s match was the first time the Revolution kept United off the board since a 0-0 draw back on Jun. 8, 2013.<\/p>\n

Caldwell returns:<\/strong> Reigning team MVP Scott Caldwell returned to the XI six days after he was left off the lineup in Houston. Caldwell, who battled an undisclosed injury during the preseason, was partnered with Gershon Koffie in the defensive central midfield at the spot that was filled by Kelyn Rowe last week. Rowe, who picked up an injury during the first half of Sunday\u2019s match, entered the match as a 75th minute substitute for Teal Bunbury.<\/p>\n

Davies exits early:<\/strong> Charlie Davies\u2019 match came to a premature end after he suffered an injury shortly after the hour mark, forcing him to exit the match in the 34th minute. Juan Agudelo entered the match for Davies, and took over the right wing\u2019s spot while Teal Bunbury pushed up to the striker\u2019s spot.<\/p>\n

Next up:<\/strong> The Revolution return to the road on Sunday, Mar. 20 for their first encounter of the season against the Philadelphia Union. Kickoff is set for 2:30pm. Last year, the Revolution went 2-0-1 against the Union, winning both contests at Talen Energy Stadium (formerly PPL Park).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
