Attleboro’s Geoff Cameron was part of the scoring brigade in Tuesday’s World Cup Qualifier, helping the United States administer a 4-0 walloping of Guatemala at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.<\/p>\n

Cameron, who was stationed at center back for Tuesday’s must-win match for the U.S., nodded through a Michael Bradley free kick in the 35th minute to give the U.S. some early breathing room after former Revolution midfielder Clint Dempsey opened the scoring in the 12th minute.<\/p>\n

Less than 20 seconds into the second half, Graham Zusi capitalized on a Guatemalan giveaway in the box while Jozy Altidore came off the bench to cap the scoring in the 89th minute.<\/p>\n

Tuesday’s win allowed the U.S. to avoid the prospect of elimination from World Cup Qualifying after losing the road leg of their series against Guatemala<\/a> last Friday in Guatemala City. The road defeat marked the first time in 28 years that the U.S. suffered a loss against the Central American side during World Cup Qualifying.<\/p>\n

Prior to the match, a plane above the pitch in Columbus flew a banner that called for the firing of U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann.<\/p>\n

With three more points in its pocket, the U.S. moved to second place in Group 3 with seven points (2-1-1) as Trinidad & Tobago remained at the top following their win over Saint Vincent on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The U.S. will resume World Cup Qualifying in September at Saint Vincent, a game which Bradley will be forced to sit out after receiving a 72nd minute caution, his second of the Group stage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
