Six days after making their official entrance, NPSL debutant Boston City FC earned its first win in club history after edging Seacoast United Phantoms 1-0 on Saturday at Malden Catholic High School in Malden, Mass. <\/p>\n

Gabriel Da Souza’s 83rd minute strike was enough to give City its first set of three points, which came against a 10-man Phantoms side. <\/p>\n

“It wasn’t pretty, but it’s a win,” Boston City midfielder Ronaldo Vieira told the media after the match. “I thought the whole game was a battle and was about grinding it out and finding a way to put the ball in back of the net. It came late, but it came.”<\/p>\n

Phantoms forward Richard Simmond was issued a straight red card in the 67th minute to leave the guests short-handed.<\/p>\n

Simmond wasn’t the only major player who didn’t see the end of the match. Boston City coach Palhinha was ejected in stoppage time after getting involved in a scuffle near the technical area.<\/p>\n

City striker Yaw Addow, who scored the first goal in club history on Sunday before he was issued a second-half red card, served his one-game ban on Saturday. <\/p>\n

With the win, City improved to 1-1-0 (3 points) while the Phantoms start the season with a 0-1-0 (0 points) mark.<\/p>\n

“We have a great group of guys here and we really gel together,” Vieira said. “We’ve been training for two months now and everyone is working hard together and are ready for their chance.”<\/p>\n

Boston City will return to action on May 11 to play their first-ever road match, a mid-week clash against the Seacoast United Mariners at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, Me. The Phantoms will see the pitch again on Sunday against New York Cosmos B at Amesbury Sports Park in Amesbury, Mass. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
