FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Going into the 2011 season, veteran forward\u00a0Ilija Stolica was projected to be one of the Revolution’s starting strikers. Today, he finds himself embarking on a stint in USL PRO.<\/p>\n
In an example of how\u00a0quickly the winds of change can blow, the Serbian striker, who’s struggled to secure playing time this season, was loaned to USL PRO side FC New York along with third-string goalkeeper Tim Murray.<\/p>\n
Stolica, who scored three goals down the stretch last season and gave the Revs attack some desperately-needed bite, had seen his\u00a0playing time\u00a0cut down significantly this season. After scoring a dramatic, last-gasp goal in Vancouver to help the Revs earn a critical point on the road, it appeared that Stolica was a candidate for additional minutes.<\/p>\n
However, only days after that point-clinching tally, the Revs signed Danish international Rajko Lekic to be their new man up top. That move, paired with the team’s considerable depth at forward this season, seemed to indicate that Stolica, who’s only league action\u00a0has come\u00a0in substitute duty\u00a0against Vancouver and Houston, was quickly becoming the odd man out.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Murray, a second-year pro who hasn’t yet tasted a single minute in league action, will likely benefit from the additional minutes he’ll find with the Queens-based club.<\/p>\n
Both players’ loans are “multiple-month loans,” according to a press release from the team. Additionally, both players are available for call-up to the Revs, if needed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
