With the potential dangers of Hurricane Irene threatening the New England Revolution\u2019s trip to face the Philadelphia Union on Sunday, Major League Soccer today announced the game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 7th. The game will kickoff at 8:00 p.m. and is still slated to air locally on Comcast SportsNet New England and nationally in Spanish on Galavision.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the safety of our fans and clubs top of mind, and thanks to the cooperation of our clubs and broadcast partners, Major League Soccer has rescheduled two games that were originally set for this weekend,\u201d said Nelson Rodriguez, Executive Vice President of Competition and Game Operations. \u201cWe expect that Hurricane Irene will likely cause hazardous travel and unplayable conditions throughout the Northeast. We appreciate our fans\u2019 understanding of these decisions and the media\u2019s assistance in communicating the message.\u201d<\/p>\n
The change in schedule means the Revs will go 17 days between league matches. No word yet on when Monday\u2019s reserve game originally scheduled for 10 a.m. in Philadelphia will be played.<\/p>\n
Two other league matches saw schedule changes as well. Saturday’s Portland Timber at D.C. United match has been moved from 7 p.m. to 2 p.m. \u00a0The weekend’s marquee MLS match-up, the Los Angeles Galaxy at New York Red Bulls, has been moved from Sunday to October 4th at 8 p.m. That match will sill be on ESPN2.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
