This week Sean Donahue and Brian O’Connell contributed ratings for the New England Revolution’s 2-1 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday.

Bobby Shuttleworth – Average Rating: 5 (Brian 5, Sean 5)
Made a few nice stops, but couldn’t do much about the mental errors in front of him. Still lacks the presence to direct his defenders. (Brian) … Made some decent saves and can’t be faulted for the goals, but would like to see him organize the first team defense the way he’s shown he’s capable of with the reserves. (Sean)

Chris Tierney – Average Rating: 5 (Brian 5, Sean 5)
Heavily involved on both ends of the pitch, made good passes, but was clearly exposed on the Earthquakes’ counterattacks. (Brian) … Some decent crosses, but passing was inconsistent and struggled at times on the defensive end. (Sean)

Darrius Barnes – Average Rating: 5.75 (Brian 6, Sean 5.5)
Throw-ins still leave something to be desired, but in the rear, he mopped up well and got into good positions. (Brian) … A couple of shaky moments on the ball, but otherwise a solid performance keeping San Jose at bay. (Sean)

Ryan Cochrane – Average Rating: 3.25 (Brian 3.5, Sean 3)
Slow reaction on Bingham long ball was embarrassing; effort’s there, but the decision-making and positioning was painful to watch. (Brian) … Inexcusably burned on the first goal and struggled with Chris Wondolowski all night. It’s been a month to forget for Cochrane. (Sean)

Kevin Alston – Average Rating: 5 (Brian 5, Sean 5)
Sharp passes and smart runs aided the attack, but late lapse on 2nd Wondolowski goal ruined an otherwise notable night. (Brian) … Beaten by Wondolowski on the game-winning goal. Some dangerous runs forward, but still looks indecisive at times in the final third. (Sean)

Monsef Zerka – Average Rating: 4 (Brian 4, Sean 4)
Quiet night for the winger, who’s creativity was there, but the execution certainly wasn’t. Temper also seemed to get the best of him. (Brian) … Passing was inconsistent and struggled to find the space with his off the ball movement that he has in previous games. Shots were poor. (Sean)

Benny Feilhaber – Average Rating: 5.75 (Brian 5.5, Sean 6)
Workhorse on the attack again; may have somewhat selfish in the final third, but was rewarded with a nice finish in the 55th minute. (Brian) … Led the attack. Won the dangerous free kick setting up the goal he would eventually convert. Nearly set up Caraglio for a late equalizer. (Sean)

Shalrie Joseph – Average Rating: 4 (Brian 4, Sean 4)
Finishing wasn’t there, and seemed to tire as the game progressed; tried to rescue his teammates too often. (Brian) … Flubbed an early shot and passing wasn’t as accurate as we’re used to seeing. (Sean)

Ryan Guy – Average Rating: 5.25 (Brian 5, Sean 5.5)
Skill was certainly there on his 55th minute rip prior to the Feilhaber goal, but neglected his defensive chores. (Brian) … Seemed to have a target on his back with the reckless tackles San Jose kept throwing at him. Did well to keep his composure and a fantastic shot leading to Feilhaber’s goal. His defense was a bit shaky at times. (Sean)

Milton Caraglio – Average Rating: 3.75 (Brian 4, Sean 3.5)
Chances were certainly there, but his inability to finish doomed him and his teammates to another loss. (Brian) … Looked slow, caught offside a few times too many, and his finishing was severely lacking. (Sean)

Diego Fagundez – Average Rating: 5.5 (Brian 5.5, Sean 5.5)
Off the ball runs were sharp, vision and passes were good, but like Caraglio, lacked the finishing touch when it mattered. (Brian) … Combined well with Feilhaber and Caraglio again. Passing was accurate. Needed to do better on Alston’s cross. (Sean)

(sub) Zack Schilawski – Average Rating: 5 (Brian 5, Sean 5)
Composed on the ball late, and played the role of organizer on field full of strikers. (Brian) … Made a few nice plays in the attack as a late sub. (Sean)

(sub) Kheli Dube – N/R
Not enough time to make an impact.

[20,3

https://i0.wp.com/nesoccertoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/shuttleworthfeature1.jpg?fit=490%2C225
