Two months after he was taken by the Revolution in the first stage of the\u00a0Re-entry Draft, it appears that left back Danleigh Borman won’t be in Foxboro in 2012.<\/p>\n

According to a report<\/a><\/span>, the 27-year-old is close to returning to his native South Africa to play for Pretoria-based SuperSport United. The report states that Borman is currently on trial with the club, and that his signing is “going to happen.” Borman is expected to remain with the\u00a0club until an announcement is made.<\/p>\n

The Revolution selected Borman, who played for New York and Toronto FC in 2011,\u00a0during the Dec. 5 Re-entry Draft\u00a0after\u00a0center back Darrius Barnes and left-sided midfielder Chris Tierney took turns filling the left back spot last season. But\u00a0in the aftermath\u00a0of a campaign that saw them concede 58 goals, \u00a0it was evident that defensive reinforcements were needed.<\/p>\n

Enter Borman, a speedy left-sided player with a cap-friendly ($42,000) salary. By all accounts, it seemed as if Borman, who played college ball in Rhode Island, and the Revolution\u00a0were a perfect fit. All they had to do was get him to sign on the dotted line.<\/p>\n

But it\u00a0wasn’t that\u00a0simple. Negotiations\u00a0dragged\u00a0into January. Yet, even though a number of\u00a0weeks had passed since his selection, head coach Jay Heaps remained optimistic as recently as last week<\/a> that a deal could be worked out.<\/p>\n

Even so, it\u00a0seems as though Borman had other ideas. After arranging a trial with SuperSport United, it appears he’s made an impression and is ready to continue his career in Pretoria.<\/p>\n

With Borman out of the picture,\u00a0it appears that\u00a0rookie Tyler Polak will be called upon to fill the left back spot this spring.\u00a0The Revolution also invited\u00a0former Real Salt Lake midfielder\/defender Blake Wagner, another versatile left-sided player,\u00a0for a trial this week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
