CFC Azul added two more players in advance of their inaugural season on Wednesday, with midfielders Kevin Lewis and Sam Groves in the fold for 2012.

Both players are University of Hartford products, with Lewis coming off his junior year and Groves a recent graduate (2011) of the school.

“Sam Groves and Kevin Lewis are two players that I recruited to Hartford when I was assistant coach there,” Azul head coach David Kelly said in a statement. “I know them, trust them and respect them. These two have the type of character that you build a club around. Sam is quick, two footed, and has an excellent range of passing. Kevin is athletic, disciplined, and possesses great technique. I am counting on both of them to set the standard in training and in the matches.”

Lewis started 17 of 18 games for the Hawks last season. He represented the United States as a member of the U.S. U-15s prior to enrolling.

Prior to graduating, Groves started each of the team’s 15 games as a senior in 2010. He helped Hawks’ cause with two assists and was named to the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League’s All-Star game.

Lewis and Groves join recent roster additions Bryan Zobre, Mamoudou Dioubate, Thomas Obasi, Jesse Menzies, Paul Templeton and Greg Cumpstone for the team’s upcoming campaign. The Azul kick off their regular season schedule on May 5 at Yale University Reese Stadium in New Haven, Conn. against Boston Victory SC. The game scheduled to start at 7:30pm.
