The Boston Breakers extended their winning streak to five in Friday night’s 4-0 thumping of FC Indiana.

Katie Schoepfer scored two goals while Kyah Simon and Bianca D’Agostino each put one through while goalkeeper Alice Binns made six saves to preserve her league-leading third shutout of the season.

“I thought it was a good team performance,” Breakers head coach Lisa Cole said in a post-game release. “We were able to do what we needed to do and keep the ball moving. I was impressed with our overall approach to the game.”

The Breakers dominated the opening half hour of play but didn’t have any goals to show for it. Then, Bianca D’Agostino scored her first career goal right at the thirty-minute mark, putting away a feed from captain Leslie Osbourne.

Schoepfer scored two goals in quick succession. In the 34th minute, Schoepfer put away a cross from Julie King to double the Breakers lead. In the 41st minute, she scored again off a sequence created by Simon and Courtney Jones. Schoepfer received the ball after an exchange between Simon and Jones before sneaking a shot inside the near post from sixteen yards for her league-leading eighth goal of the season.

Schoepfer has more goals to her name than any other team in the WPSL Elite.

“In every game, everybody has their moments. They can score goals, make an important tackle, a save,” Cole said. “Katie, every chance she gets to put us on the scoreboard, she does.”

The Breakers closed out the victory with a fourth goal from Simon in the 78th minute. Cat Whitehill hit an 18-yard freekick to Katherine Donnelly, who’s shot deflected into the path of Simon. Simon scooped up the rebound and pounded the loose ball into the net for her third goal of the season.

Boston has now scored eight goals against FC Indiana this season, a statistic that makes Indiana’s head coach, Shek Borkowski, face the honest truth.

“Boston is a better team, period,” FC Indiana Head Coach Shek Borkowski said. “Lisa Cole has the team well-prepared, and we simply are not experienced enough to challenge them at this point of our development.”

Boston’s perfect start to the season has put them six points clear of second place New York. The Breakers will try to extend their winning streak to six on Sunday at the Chicago Red Stars.
