Howarth’s Late Strike Seals Win for Mutiny

Kate Howarth’s late-game heroics delivered the Mutiny to its first road win of the season in Thursday’s 3-2 victory over FC Indiana in Indianapolis.

With the score knotted at two-all in the 90th minute, Howarth, who scored the first Mutiny goal in the 32nd minute, added another moments before full time. Becca Mays joined her teammate on the scoresheet in the 51st minute while Indiana countered with goals from Manoucheka Pierre-Louis (56′) and Jordan Clark (83′).

In a match that saw eight yellow cards issued, the Mutiny focused their attention on finding the back of the net just after the half hour mark. Sarah Brochu served it into the area, where Howarth headed it through to open the account in the 32nd minute.

Going into the second half with a one-goal lead, the guests found another in the 51st minute. Kelsey Hood caught the Indiana back four asleep when she lifted a ball over to Mays, who finished it to make it a two-goal advantage.

But hosts didn’t take long to respond. Five minutes after the Mutiny’s second goal, Pierre-Louis set her sights on the New England net and fired it through to cut the lead in half.

With the match nearing full time, Indiana added another in the 83rd minute when Clark converted a penalty to level it at 2-2.

However, Howarth would get the last laugh. With the final seconds melting away, Mays sent a through ball to the Mutiny striker, who beat Geralda Saintilus in the 90th minute to give the guests their third win of the season.

New England returns to action on Saturday when the Chicago Red Stars welcome them to Northwestern University at 6:00pm.
