Pioneers, Azul Duel to 0-0 Draw

It was a different venue, but CFC Azul and the Western Mass Pioneers battled to another scoreless draw, just eight days after having the same result on June 8th.

CFC Azul goalie Matt Sangeloty made seven saves to earn his fifth shutout of the season, which is tied for the league lead.

Western Mass keeper Warren Gross didn’t have to make a save as all seven of Azul’s shots didn’t require Gross to make a stop.

The game saw seven yellow cards handed out: three to the Pioneers (Trey Jasonski, Jordan Branco, and Mamoudou Dioubate) and four to Azul (Conor Fitzpatrick, Pat Boucher, Steve Covino, and Ryan Kinne).

The best chance at three points came later in the game. With a free kick right outside the area, Western Mass’ DJ Pereira stepped up and struck the ball just over the crossbar.

Azul is now 3-3-4 and sits in third in the Northeast Division. Western Mass is now 2-2-4 and is tied for fifth with GPS Portland Phoenix.
