Mutiny Fall Hard to Fury

The New England Mutiny fell to the New York Fury 4-0 on Tuesday in Hempstead, NY. A brace from Fury forward Meghan Lenczyk  helped solidify the  win over the Mutiny, who surrered their fifth loss of the season.

Allie Long scored in just the fourth minute off a Mutiny defensive error to open up the scoring.

Then, the Lenczyk show began. In the 26th minute, Merritt Mathias sent the ball into the penalty area from the right flank. Lenczyk rose to meet the cross and headed the ball into the net to double the Fury’s lead. She scored again in the 60th minute, her fourth goal in three games.

“Meghan Lenczyk is finding her top form,” said Riley in a post-game release. “We are starting to really develop good chemistry in our front line. Goals bring confidence and she us a different player from two weeks ago.”

The Fury got their third goal from Jasmyne Spencer, who scored in the 40th minute by pouncing on another Mutiny defensive error.

In addition to a poor defensive performance, the Mutiny were also unable to find their attacking form. The Mutiny fired just four shots to New York’s 17.

The loss puts the Mutiny (3-5-2, 11 points) in fifth place in the WPSL Elite Standings. The Mutiny return to action on Jul. 7 for a commonwealth clash against the Boston Breakers at East Longmeadow High School. Kickoff is set for 6pm.
