Newtown & NY Pancyprian-Freedoms Set for USOC Clash

Newtown SC will play its first U.S. Open Cup qualifier when it hosts tournament powerhouse New York Pancyprian-Freedoms at 4pm on Apr. 7 at Treadwell Park in Newtown, Conn.

In 2012, Newtown finished second on the Connecticut Soccer League table with a 5-1-3 (18 points) record, scoring a league-high 28 goals. The Pancyprian-Freedoms currently sport a 7-4-1 (22 points) record, good for second place in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League West division.

The Pancyprian-Freedoms qualified for the Open Cup three times in the last five years (2008, 2010 and 2011) and were tournament champions in 1979, 1980 and 1982.
