Revs Score 4 in Scrimmage vs. NE Force

So much for taking it easy during the bye week.

Head coach Jay Heaps unfurled a starting XI that bore a strong resemblance to a Revolution first team lineup in Friday’s 4-0 scrimmage win over the upstart New England Force at the Gillette Stadium lower practice field.

Bobby Shuttleworth started in goal, while Jose Goncalves paired with Stephen McCarthy in the heart of the defense. Chris Tierney and Andrew Farrell were penciled in as the fullbacks. Lee Nguyen and Kelyn Rowe manned the midfield flanks, with Kalifa Cisse and Clyde Simms partnered inside. Diego Fagundez and Jerry Bengtson played up front.

The hosts greeted their guests with a rude welcome inside of seven minutes when Simms collected the first goal of the game.

It didn’t get any easier for the Force before the interval. Rowe set up Fagundez for the second goal in the 43rd minute, while Nguyen scored from the spot a minute later.

Heaps made changes to his second half lineup, with Luis Soffner, Darrius Barnes, Sainey Nyassi, Donnie Smith, Andy Dorman, and Ryan Guy all getting action. Dimitry Imbongo remained up top after coming on for Bengtson in the 32nd minute.

Guest player Fernando Monge, who was drafted by Montreal in January, came in the 64th minute for Cisse, and went on to score the final goal in the 86th minute. Monge was released by the Impact prior to the start of the regular season.

On Saturday, the Revolution’s USL-PRO affiliate in Rochester will play its final preseason game against Cornell University, a game which will likely feature loan players Gabe Latigue, Bilal Duckett, Matt Horth and Tyler Polak.
