Breakers bolster the attack at WPS draft

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Boston Breakers added midfielder Keelin Winters, along with forwards Whitney Palmer, Katie Sheeleigh, and Tanya Taylor to their potent attack Friday afternoon at the 2011 Womens Professional Soccer Draft.

Winters, who was taken with the sixth overall pick, played collegiately at the University of Portland from 2007-2010. She scored six goals and 10 assists in 83 career matches with the Pilots and was named the 2010 West Coast Conference Player of the Year.

Palmer was taken in the second round with the 12th overall pick after a sensational career at the University of Oklahoma. In her four seasons with the Sooners, she collected 38 goals and 10 assists in 80 career games and was named to the All-Big 12 first team in 2009.

Sheeleigh, the 2010 Ivy League Player of the Year, was taken in the third round (19th overall) after posting a league-high nine goals to go along with a team-high seven assists at Harvard. She finished her Crimson career with 31 goals in 67 games.

Taylor, who was taken with the final selection of the draft (24th overall), was the first player at the University of California-Irvine to be selected in a WPS draft. She was named Big West Offensive Player of the Year in 2010 after scoring 12 goals and adding 11 assists for the Anteaters.
