It’s safe to say that it’s all systems go for the return of professional soccer to Ludlow, Mass.

A week before officially rejoining the professional ranks after a five-year hiatus, Western Mass scored early and never looked back in a 13-0 rout of Greater Lowell United in a preseason friendly on Saturday at Lusitano Stadium.

Chris Roswess scored and assisted while James Beeston and Luke Perry also tallied in the comprehensive display put forth by the hosts.

“Of course, it is always nice to win big, but we have to see what happens when we face Mass United,” head coach Federico Molinari said in a club release. “One thing that impressed me was the energy of our team. We did not slow down even when we went up big. Players are fighting for their spots on this team.”

Western Mass kicks off their American Soccer League season on Saturday, Aug. 30 when they host Mass United FC at Lusitano Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.

The match will be the first game in the pro ranks in nearly five years for the Western Mass organization, who fielded a team in USL-3 from 1998-2009, and won the league championship in 1999.
