Typically, trialists are barred from speaking to the press until a contract is signed. Then again, A.J. Soares has not been your typical trialist, at least through the eyes of the Norwegian media.

On Saturday, the former Revolution center back spoke to aftenbladet.no about his current trial with Tippeligaen squad Viking FK, whom he joined for a tryout this weekend.

“You can see it’s a good club with good resources,” Soares told the outlet. “They try to take care of their players, and that’s important for football. I’ve really enjoyed it so far.”

While Soares said he’s enjoyed his brief time with the club so far, he undertook a cautious approach when asked about his immediate future.

“It’s too early to say ‘Oh, I want a contract,’ or anything like that,” Soares said. “Right now, I just need to focus and try to play well and impress the coach.”

On Sunday, Soares started and went 45 minutes in Viking’s 2-0 loss to Valerenga during a preseason scrimmage.
