A week after netting a hat trick, former Western Mass Pioneers striker Will Daniels bagged a brace for Icelandic side KF Aegir in a 4-2 loss to third-place Huginn on Friday.

Daniels, who played for Western Mass Pioneers from 2013-2014, collected his first goal in the 23rd minute on a long free kick that ended up in the Huginn box, where he eventually took hold of it, turned and fired it through. His second strike came from the spot in the 95th minute after he was taken down inside the box by the goalkeeper.

“I had the ball on the left wing, a give-and-go with a midfielder, and went into the box creating a 50-50 with the goalie,” Daniels told NESoccerToday.com. “I beat him to the ball, touched it around the keeper and he had no choice but to take me down. I stepped up and sent him the opposite way, calmly putting it in the bottom right corner.”

The two-goal effort for the 25-year-old striker, who played collegiately at Quinnipiac University, gave him six in only seven games with 10th-place Aegir. His six goals also puts him third in scoring in the Icelandic Second Division.

Although Daniels put together another strong individual effort, he said it wasn’t easy for him and his squad, which fell into a two-goal rut before the 14th minute, to get going early on.

“It was a frustrating game because the field was extremely soft, people were slipping everywhere, the most I have ever seen in a game,” Daniels said. “It was hard to maintain balance when quickly switching directions. It was frustrating loss, but we will take the positives from this game to get ready for a big match on Thursday.”

Daniels and his Aegir teammates will face first-place IR Reykjavik, which will enter Thursday’s match coming off its first two losses of the season over the last two weeks.
