Cameron’s Red Card Rescinded

Stoke City defender/midfielder Geoff Cameron will be eligible to play in Tuesday’s Capital One Cup semifinal tie against Liverpool after the FA rescinded the red card issued to the Attleboro, Mass. native on Saturday.
Cameron was sent off in the 83rd minute of Stoke’s 2-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion after he shoved Claudio Yacob in the neck. At the time of the incident, Stoke had just leveled the match, but West Brom took advantage of the personnel advantage when Jonny Evans netted the game-winner in stoppage time.
Stoke City filed a formal appeal of the ban on Monday, and the FA issued its decision only hours later in a press release.
“An Independent Regulatory Commission found that the match referee had made an obvious error in dismissing the Stoke City player for violent conduct during the game against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday,” read the release.
Cameron, who played his college ball at the University of Rhode Island, was facing a three-match ban prior to Stoke’s successful appeal.
To date, the 30-year-old defender has played 15 EPL matches for the Potters this season, splitting time between the backline and the midfield.
Cameron will likely receive a call up by U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann in the coming days for the team’s annual January camp.
