Revolution president Brian Bilello confirmed on Tuesday the club completed a Designated Player signing, but stopped short of confirming the player’s identity.

Bilello announced the signing – which he confirmed was a pre-contract arrangement – via Twitter, saying that more details will come “in the next few weeks.”

The fact that the signing was completed via pre-contract suggests that the player in question will not be available immediately, but rather, later in the season, possibly during the summer.

In November, reports surfaced that Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote was being targeted by the Revolution. A transfer fee would be required in order to sign the 29-year-old Ivory Coast international as his current contract runs through the 2016-17 campaign.

With midfielder Jermaine Jones out of contract, the Revolution currently do not have a designated player on the roster.
