Ex-Rev Boss Clavijo Says He’s in Remission from Cancer

Former Revolution head coach Fernando Clavijo announced via Twitter on Thursday that after battling cancer for two years, he is in full remission.

Clavijo, who coached the Revolution from 2002-2002, is currently the technical director at FC Dallas. In 2014, the 59-year-old former U.S. Men’s National Team defender was diagnosed in with multiple myeloma.

Under his watch, the Revolution added the likes of Taylor Twellman, Shalrie Joseph, Jay Heaps and Steve Ralston to its roster. He went 20-27-12 at the helm before Steve Nicol succeeded him in mid-way through the 2002 season.

The Uruguayan-born Clavijo immigrated to the United States in 1979, and went on to play in the 1994 World Cup for the U.S. During his international career, he was capped 61 times from 1990-94.
