Report Links Jones to Hannover 96

Apparently, the six-match ban that Jermaine Jones has been saddled with isn’t enough to deter at least one club from trying to bring him back to the Bundesliga.
According to a report out of Germany, the 34-year-old midfielder has received interest from Hannover 96, which is currently at the bottom of the Bundesliga table.
Jones, who played for Bundesliga sides Schalke 04, Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen, currently has his MLS rights held by the Revolution. However, the club is unable to prevent the mercurial midfielder from linking up with a side overseas.
On Thursday, Jones bemoaned the terms of his six-game suspension after it was discovered that the ban isn’t limited to MLS competition, and that all federations must enforce it, per FIFA regulations. The midfielder received the ban in the wake of his physical confrontation with referee Mark Geiger during the Revolution’s knockout round loss to DC United in October.
“All other leagues, its half a season played,” Jones told ESPNFC.com on Thursday. “If you have a six-game suspension, its tough to bring [someone] in. I feel like its unfair that you close a window for a player that did a lot for this country and this sport here.”
He also said that he’s looking at a return to Europe due to the unfavorable climate for his services in MLS.
“It’s a little bit frustrating,” Jones said. “I told everyone, ‘If you bring me the correct contract, I’ll be open to stay in MLS. But if not, I don’t want to stay here.
“Now, I have good offers. I want to go back to Germany. At the end of they day, they don’t give me the chance to go. It’s tough for a guy like me that wants to play. If they don’t value my level here in the United Stats, then I want to go back to Europe, where the people respect that and offered me a good contract. That makes me mad.”
Jones is currently training with the U.S. Men’s National Team, and is set to play in its friendly against Iceland on Sunday. Curiously, the ban does not go into effect at the international level until he signs a contract with a club.
