Revs to Face Crew in DDC Final

The Revolution are headed back to a cup final – albeit one for a preseason tournament.
Not long after beating the Houston Dynamo on in Round 3 of the Desert Diamond Cup tournament on Wednesday, the Revolution learned they’d be playing for championship spoils in Saturday’s championship final against Columbus Crew SC.
The Revolution finished Group Stage play with five points after going 1-0-2, with Sporting Kansas City trailing in second place with four points thanks to a 1-1-1 mark.
But after Sporting coach Peter Vermes opted out of the final in order to play a new opponent rather than the Revolution, who battled Vermes’ team to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, the three-point Crew SC were next in line for the championship tilt.
“Obviously we’d be in the final with New England, but we’re going to play Houston,” Vermes told the media on Wednesday. “We have already played New England and none of us want to play each other two times in the same tournament because we are going to see each other during the regular season. So us playing Houston will be good for us.”
Saturday’s final, which is set to kick off at 9:30pm ET, will be the first time the Revolution have reached the tournament’s title game since 2012, when they fell to LA Galaxy on PKs.
