The New England Mutiny suffered its first loss of 2017 Saturday before rebounding with a win Sunday in their first road trip of the campaign.

On Saturday, the Mutiny fell 4-2 to the New York Surf in the Bronx, N.Y. Kate Howarth scored both of New England’s goals, which came in the 29th and 74th minutes.

But the Surf offense was simply too much as Jordan Clark opened the scoring in the eighth minute while Erica Murphy made it a two-goal margin in the 13th minute. Maegen Doyle and Furtuna Velaj both scored shortly after the break to put the hosts in command.

It was a different borough and a different outcome for the Mutiny on Sunday as Lauren Aldrich scored an 86th minute winner to edge the New York Magic 1-0 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Mutiny goalkeeper Gabby Arruda picked up the clean sheet in her first start of the season.

With the weekend’s matches behind them, the Mutiny are now 3-1-0 (nine points).

They’ll resume their Empire State exploits on Saturday against Western NY Flash at Niagara University in Buffalo, N.Y. before finishing up their road trip on Sunday against the Rochester Lady Lancers at Wegman’s Stadium in Rochester, N.Y.
