Breakers’ midfielders Meghan Klingenberg and Keelin Winters were among 31 players called into U.S. Women’s National Team camp by head coach Pia Sundhage on Wednesday. The camp will run from Dec. 3-20, and will take place at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

Klingenberg started in 10 games for the Breakers in 2011 after the team acquired her from the now-defunct magicJack squad on June 1. She immediately stepped inside the central midfield alongside Winters, and scored a goal and two assists during her time in Boston. To date, the Gibsonia, Pa. native has earned two caps with the WNT.

Winters was the Breakers’ first round pick in 2011 and earned a starting spot in the central midfield out of preseason. In 18 games, she scored three goals and picked up two assists, earning her WPS rookie of year consideration. She has not yet been capped on the senior level, but was part of the U-20 squad that secured the 2008 U-20 World Cup.

In addition to Klingenberg and Winters, a number of their former teammates were also called into camp by Sundhage. Rachel Buehler, Stephanie Cox, Amy LePeilbet, Kelly O’Hara and Lauren Cheney – all of whom are currently out of contract – donned Breakers uniforms in 2011. Another notable name on the list of invitees is Boston College midfielder Kristie Mewis, who recently finished up a solid campaign with the Eagles after scoring six goals and collecting eight assists as a junior.

The 18-day camp is expected to give Sundhage a better sense of who she’ll bring onto the squad for Olympic qualifying, which will run from Jan. 19-29 in Vancouver.
