Player Ratings: New England Revolution at Colorado Rapids

After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the performances of the Revolution players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1 horrendous, 5 average, 10 perfection). This week Brian O’Connell and Sean Donahue contributed ratings for the Revs’ 3-0 loss to the Colorado Rapids.

Matt Reis – Average Rating: 3.5 (Brian 4, Sean 3)
Made a few nice saves, but looked shaky throughout the match (Brian) … Made a couple of spectacular saves, but was rooted to his line on Cummings’ goal and beaten to the near post on Thompson’s. Needs to help organize the defense better (Sean)

Seth Sinovic – Average Rating: 4.5 (Brian 4, Sean 5)
Not at fault for any of the goals, but was exploited for a couple of Rapids’ chances (Sean) … Was soft at left back, and the Rapids exploited the right channel all night as a result (Brian)

Cory Gibbs – Average Rating: 2.75 (Brian 3, Sean 2.5)
Was burned on Wells Thomson goal, never stopped the Rapids from swarming around Reis (Brian) … Left Cummings alone on the first goal, didn’t mark him tightly on his assist to Casey, and beaten by Thompson for the third goal. Overall poor performance (Sean)

Emmanuel Osei – Average Rating: 1.75 (Brian 2, Sean 1.5)
Dreadful performance. Never seemed comfortable and was directly responsible for the Rapids’ first two goals. Communication issues and poorly weighted passes are making him too much of a liability (Sean) … Perhaps his worst game of the season. Fooled on the Cummings goal, and was caught ball watching often (Brian)

Kevin Alston – Average Rating: 5.5 (Brian 6, Sean 5)
The only back that performed. Shut down the left flank, added some punch to the attack (Brian) … Could’ve helped Osei on Casey’s goal. Had a couple of decent moments getting forward (Sean)

Chris Tierney – Average Rating: 3.75 (Brian 4, Sean 3.5)
Often invisible. Didn’t create much of anything offensively (Sean) … Absent much of the match, along with the rest of the midfield (Brian)

Pat Phelan – Average Rating: 3 (Brian 3, Sean 3)
Run over by the Colorado attack, created nothing but lost opportunities (Brian) … Didn’t make his mark on the game, poor giveaways and added nothing offensively (Sean)

Shalrie Joseph – Average Rating: 4 (Brian 4, Sean 4)
Part of a midfield that struggled to keep possession and link up with the attack (Sean) … Not much he could do to aid the attack, as the focus lay squarely on defending. Passes were accurate but teammates’ bad touches did little to help (Brian)

Sainey Nyassi – Average Rating: 3.5 (Brian 3, Sean 4)
A few flashes in the second half, but spent much of his time defending (Brian) … Some moments late in the game, but forced to defend due to the Revs failure to keep possession (Sean)

Marko Perovic – Average Rating 3.25 (Brian 3, Sean 3.5)
Tried to do too much alone. Only Rev that looked a threat to score in the match (Sean) … Showed some punch late, but forgot about his teammates and tried to do too much (Brian)

Ilija Stolica – Average Rating: 2.75 (Brian 3, Sean 2.5)
Virtually non-existent (Brian) … No impact (Sean)

(Sub) Kenny Mansally – Average Rating: 4.75 (Brian 5, Sean 4.5)
Provided some spark off the bench (Sean) … Helped give the attack some bite. One of the few effective attacking options (Brian)

(Sub) Jason Griffiths – Average Rating: 3.75 (Brian 4, Sean 3.5)
Did little to spark the offense. Played marginally better than Phelan (Brian) … Give-away led to Thompson’s goal (Sean)

(Sub) Kheli Dube – Average Rating: 3 (Brian 3, Sean NR)
No time to make an impact (Sean) … Never had the opportunity to contribute. Served as an ineffective late-match decoy (Brian)
