After failing to meet the heightened expectations\u00a0that often accompany former European stars, the oft-injured, underachieving\u00a0Edgaras Jankauskas was released by the Revolution today.<\/p>\n

Jankausus, who was signed to a hefty contract\u00a0 back in July of 2009, then re-signed again this past offseason to the tune of a $240,000 salary,\u00a0never justified the six-figure sum he\u00a0commanded during his\u00a0stay in New England.<\/p>\n

In his 14 matches with the local XI, the Lituanian striker’s offensive output\u00a0was limited to\u00a0a pair\u00a0goals and\u00a0an assist. And when he wasn’t under performing on the pitch, the former\u00a0Porto striker\u00a0was relegated to the sidelines after sustaining a set of injuries, which limited him to only four appearances – all coming as a substitute – this season.<\/p>\n

With the release of Jankauskas,\u00a0 the Revolution\u00a0currently hold two\u00a0open\u00a0roster spots. But,\u00a0with only four games regular season games remaining, and no\u00a0shot at\u00a0the playoffs,\u00a0it would not be surprising if the club\u00a0finishes the season without filling those vacancies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
