After\u00a0sinking into a\u00a03-0 hole, the Phoenix\u00a0scored twice in the final 10 minutes but\u00a0ultimately fell\u00a0short\u00a03-2\u00a0to the Brooklyn Italians (PSL)\u00a0in a rain-soaked U.S. Open Cup qualifier at Deering High School in Portland, Maine.<\/p>\n
Nathaniel Simons (5′) and Christian Turizo (7′)\u00a0scored\u00a0early, while Jumol Harewood (78′) made it a three-goal advantage going into the 80th minute. Blaike Woodruff scored two goals (80′, 90+1′) late to close the gap, but the Italians advanced to the next round of the U.S. Open Cup when it was all said and done.<\/p>\n
With the win, Brooklyn sets its sights on the Rochester Rhinos (USL PRO)\u00a0for a\u00a0May 22 showdown\u00a0at\u00a0Sahlen’s Stadium\u00a0in Rochester while Portland was eliminated from this year’s\u00a0competition.
