After bypassing goalkeeper Luis Robles earlier this month, the Revolution used the top spot in the Allocation Process to acquire two-time MLS All-Star Juan Toja on Monday.<\/p>\n

Toja, who signed with MLS last week after a spell with Greek side Aris Thessaloniki, earned All-Star honors in 2007 and 2008 as memeber of FC Dallas.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re pleased to add a player of Juan\u2019s skill and experience through the Allocation Process,” General Manager Michael Burns said in a statement on Monday. \u201cHe\u2019s not only played in MLS and is familiar with the league, but he\u2019s also been very successful in MLS.”<\/p>\n

During his time in Dallas, the left-footed midfielder scored eight goals and added three assists in 43 career games. In addition to his playmaking prowess, the Colombian international became a cult hero around the league given his trademark locks, which won him the affection of fans across MLS.<\/p>\n

After earning his first All-Star nod in 2007, Toja claimed MVP honors in the 2008 midsummer classic, which saw him score and assist against Celtic FC at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.<\/p>\n

Shortly after his memorable All-Star performance, Toja then moved to Romanian side Steaua Bucuresti, where he scored three goals in 51 games before he joined Aris in 2010.<\/p>\n

Given the Revolution’s recent form, Burns is anxious to get a much-needed attacking presence in the midfield, an area where the team has struggled to assert itself in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re looking forward to getting Juan in with the team as soon as possible,” Burns said. “We believe he\u2019ll be a valuable player for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Toja will be officially added to the roster upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, per MLS and club policy. He will occupy one of the team’s international slots.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
