Lisa Cole will return as head coach of the Boston Breakers next season, the club announced on Friday.<\/p>\n

Cole led the Breakers to a league-best 11-3-0 record in her first season at the helm in 2012 and earned a playoff berth in the process.<\/p>\n

“I am very happy to be back coaching the Breakers this year,” Cole said in a statement\u00a0on Friday.\u00a0“It\u2019s a great organization, in the city, with the best fans. We have set up a professional environment for players, and I feel like we can put together a team everyone can be proud of. Boston is a city used to bringing home championships.” \u00a0<\/p>\n

Cole originally arrived in Boston as an assistant to former head coach Tony DiCicco in 2009, the first season of the now-defunct Women’s Professional Soccer. Following the 2011 season, DiCicco stepped down and Cole was given the reins.<\/p>\n

But a cloud of uncertainty\u00a0cast itself over\u00a0the club going into the 2012 season. In January, the league announced that it had suspended operations for the year. As a result, Cole was left to wonder whether she’d even get the chance to coach the Breakers.<\/p>\n

Shortly after the WPS announcement, the club\u00a0entered the newly-formed WPSL Elite\u00a0division, an eight-team league that served as a placeholder for top-flight women’s soccer.<\/p>\n

Tasked with assembling a new roster nearly from scratch, Cole guided the Breakers to one of its most successful seasons in club history.<\/p>\n

“Lisa is without a doubt one the foremost coaches in the country,” Boston Breakers Managing Partner\u00a0Michael Stoller\u00a0said in a statement. “She has been with us for four years, bringing the Breakers to a regular season championship last year in the Elite League as our head coach and we are thrilled to have her committed to the Breakers.”<\/div>\n
