(Chris Aduama/aduama.com)

After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the performances of the New England Revolution players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1 horrendous, 5 average, 10 perfection). This week Sean Donahue and Julian Cardillo contributed ratings for the New England Revolution’s scoreless draw with D.C. United.

Bobby Shuttleworth – Average Rating: 6 (Sean 6, Julian 6)
Had a fairly easy night thanks to good defending along with some atrocious finishing by D.C. Did well on the lone save he needed to make. (Sean) …Commanded his box well and made the only save he had to make. (Julian)

Andrew Farrell – Average Rating: 5 (Sean 5, Julian 5)
Caught forward on a few D.C. counter attacks, leaving the flank wide open, and struggled at times with Kyle Porter. Offensively, however, it was perhaps his best performance of the season in the attacking third with some key passes sparking attacks. (Sean) … Needed to do better to get back into position but did a nice job of getting forward and passing to players’ feet. (Julian)

Jose Goncalves – Average Rating: 5.75 (Sean 5.5, Julian 6)
Held to ball too long at times – caught in possession for an early D.C. chance, though there was a hint of a foul on the play. Otherwise a good showing defensively. Had to like the ambition with some of his passes attempting to spring the forwards, but the accuracy was off with his longer passes. (Sean) … Solid as usual for the veteran center back (Julian)

Stephen McCarthy – Average Rating: 6 (Sean 6, Julian 6)
Over 92% passing out of the back, and though his efforts perhaps weren’t always as noticeable as Goncalves, his positioning was strong and he continues to show aerial dominance on long balls. (Sean) … Good positioning throughout the night and the passing out of the back was much better. (Julian)

Chris Tierney – Average Rating: 5 (Sean 5, Julian 5)
Caught ball watching and let Nick DeLeon breeze past him unchecked on D.C.’s early chance that was sent wide, though his defensive play improved after. Crosses lacked accuracy, but still found ways to contribute to the attack, including rattling the post with a shot. (Sean) … Good job going up and down the flank, but his crossing and set pieces were poor. (Julian)

Scott Caldwell – Average Rating: 5 (Sean 5, Julian 5)
Nothing flashy – played a simple game limiting turnovers and breaking up a few attacks. (Sean) … He continued to be consistent as a starting center mid, though his final ball wasn’t there against DC. (Julian)

Juan Toja – Average Rating: 4.25 (Sean 4.5, Julian 4)
Played a few key passes and has seemed more comfortable in his deeper roll than he did when he was playing behind the striker earlier in the season. Passing accuracy overall was good, but crossing was poor and needed to be more involved. Defensive inadequacies were on display, particularly when he picked up a yellow card for dragging down Chris Pontius after he was beat. (Sean) … Really struggled to get involved in the attack and seemed to be nonexistent at times. (Julian)

Diego Fagundez – Average Rating: 5.75 (Sean 5.5, Julian 6)
Not as involved as he has been in recent games, but always looked dangerous when he had the ball. Had some trouble with D.C.’s physical defending and failed to register a shot on frame as his scoring streak ended. (Sean) … Had some nice ideas going forward but wasn’t on the end of too many chances like he has been recently. (Julian)

Lee Nguyen – Average Rating: 4.5 (Sean 4.5, Julian 4.5)
Some nice combination playing going forward, including a late shot on frame and setting up Tierney’s shot, but set pieces were poor, including wasting a dangerous late free kick by failing to get it past the first defender. Also wasted one of the team’s better chances with an off target shot and picked up a yellow for a bad foul of ex-Rev Sainey Nyassi after turning the ball over. (Sean) … Really failed to get involved in the attack and mishit what should have been a goal in the first half. (Julian)

Saer Sene – Average Rating: 5.25 (Sean 5, Julian 5.5)
Still not convinced right midfield maximizes his skillset. Passing was off at times and didn’t see much of the ball outside of a couple of off target shots.(Sean) … The Revs looked like they lost some creativity when he came off the field, as he went right at defenders. (Julian)

Juan Agudelo – Average Rating: 5 (Sean 5, Julian 5)
Played very physical up top, which resulted in some good hold-up play, but also potentially cost the Revolution a goal with Sene’s strike being disallowed for one of the three fouls he committed on the night. Didn’t find himself on the end of any chances. (Sean) … Looked a tad lost for the first time in his Revs career, though he did well to hold the ball up. (Julian)

(sub) Kelyn Rowe – Average Rating: 5 (Sean 5, Julian 5)
Asked to play a couple of different positions – first on the wing when he entered and then moving to the center when Barrett came on for Toja. Brought some life with a late shot, but otherwise struggled along with the rest of the team to get much going forward. (Sean) … Had a shot saved late, but was otherwise not a suitable replacement for Sene. (Julian)

(sub) Chad Barrett – Average Rating: 4.25 (Sean 4.5, Julian 4)
Seemed to be forced to be played out of position and it showed. (Sean) … Just didn’t have much of an effect on the game. Maybe was in the wrong position.
