You know, it was just amazing to be able to play in front of my fans and my family and friends and Syd made a great run down the end line, like she kind of did all the work and I just kind of tapped it in, I was there, and it was just the best feeling in the world.”

Q: Your goal face I think might rival Syd’s at this point. Your reaction was pretty great.

KM: “I dunno. Hers was pretty good.”

Q: How nice was it to have that chance? It’s not a hard chance. It’s the ball is out in front and just being able to sweep it home.

KM: “Yeah, I saw that the back post was open, like that whole area was kind of open, so I just figured that I’d just make a run in there. It ended up slipping through and I just tapped it in. I kind of owe it all to Syd. She’s a little upset with me because I didn’t run to her right when it happened because I was just like so excited, but, yeah, I owe it all to her and it was awesome. It was the best.”

Q: Did you grow up a Patriots fan?

KM: “Yeah, actually, my uncle was the equipment manager for them for like 44 years and he actually just passed away, so I want to give a shout out to him. I wish he was here to see me play this but I know he was with me here tonight.”

Q: Did you go to a lot of Patriots games when you were little?

KM: “I didn’t go to too many because I was really busy with soccer, but I always kept up with it. I’ve been to a couple of them. I actually went recently with my aunt. So yeah, I’ve ground up around Boston, I’m such a Boston girl and I always will be and I’m so happy that I was able to play in front of my friends and family today.”

Q: How many people did you have here?

KM: “I have no idea but there was a lot, probably like 60-70 people, maybe even more. I don’t know.”

Q: Did you have a cheering section?

KM: “I think they all got spread out a little bit, but I heard little piece of it, so…”

Q: Kristie, you have a Boston Strong patch on tonight, so not only playing, but also scoring, what does that mean to you altogether?

KM: “Well, like I said earlier, I was born in Boston, this is my home, this is my place. Something that horrible happened in my hometown and to be able to come here and just a couple of months after be able to play in front of everyone and to be able to score on this night just makes it that much better and I was so happy that I could share it with my team.”

Q: You’re heading to Jersey tomorrow. What do you have to do to prepare for this next game?

KM: “So, Korea is a great team. They really gave us a really good game and I think we just need to rest, we need to recover, we need to prepare and do film and video and just practice for our next game. Everyone always says it’s hard to beat the same team twice, but we’re going to go out, we’re going to practice and hopefully get another win.”

Q: How are you adapting to playing left back?

KM: “It’s definitely new and it’s different, but the girls that I’m playing next to and in front of me are unbelievable and so supportive, so it’s been a really good experience and I think I’m still learning and I’m still growing and I’m still a young player, but I think I’ll be able to manage if I keep doing what I’m doing.”

Q: How much confidence does it give you that Tom is willing to put you out there and willing to bring in a lot of young players into this team?

KM: “It’s awesome what Tom’s doing. He’s giving new players experience and just a lot of new players time and stuff like that, so it’s been such a great year so far and I think we’re really growing as a team, and that’s what’s most important is to be able to grow as a team.”

Q: What does it mean to you to score on the same night that Abby Wambach scores?

KM: “It feels phenomenal. She’s actually my roommate right now, so I’m having a great time with her and it’s a dream come true. I look up to Abby so much and to be able to score and play and run around on the same field with her is unbelievable.”

Q: Was it at all difficult not getting drafted by the Breakers?

KM: “I mean, yeah, obviously it’s my hometown, but I’m having so much fun in Kansas City. My coach and my teammates are awesome and I’m having a great time in Kansas City, so I can’t wait until I can get back with them and play with them a little bit more for the summer. Obviously, it’s a little bit disappointing that I didn’t get drafted to Boston, too. I could have played with Syd, but Kansas City, I’m having the time of my life there.”

Kristie Mewis: Q: So, third minute, right off the bat, how did that even feel?
