Former Revolution center back and Rhode Island native Michael Parkhurst was added to the United States Men’s National Team\u00a0roster ahead\u00a0of an upcoming pair of\u00a0World Cup Qualifiers.<\/p>\n
Parkhurst was named to the roster as a replacement for Sounders defender Brad Evans, who suffered a calf strain during his club’s 1-0 win over Columbus on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The 29-year-old defender was an active participant during the United States’ run to the CONCACAF Gold Cup Championship earlier this summer. He started in five of six Gold Cup contests, including the final against\u00a0Panama.<\/p>\n
The U.S.\u00a0is set to face Costa Rica on Friday in San Jose, Costa Rica\u00a0before hosting Mexico on\u00a0Tuesday, Sept. 10 in Columbus.<\/p>\n
Parkhurst has been capped 21 times, and plays for Bundesliga side Augsburg. On Monday, he was\u00a0the subject of a rumored\u00a0transfer deal\u00a0to Serie A side Lazio. According to reports, Augsburg’s asking price was too steep for the Italian club.<\/p>\n
