Southern New Hampshire University forward Pierre Omanga, who also featured for GPS Portland Phoenix\u00a0last summer, was named NCAA Division II Men’s Player of the Year on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Omanga scored a\u00a0Northeast-10 Conference best 21 goals in 24 games for the Penmen in 2013, and helped steer them to a Division II National Championship earlier this month.<\/p>\n

“Pierre did an unbelievable job in a short amount of time adjusting to our system and our program.\u00a0 He deserves all the credit he is getting at this point,” said Southern New Hampshire head coach Marc Hubbard, who\u00a0 was named the NSCAA Division II Coach of the Year,\u00a0in a\u00a0school release.\u00a0“Every team at our level needs a go-to goal scorer and he produced all season when we needed him most.\u00a0 We are very happy for him and for our program to have a player get this kind of recognition.”<\/p>\n

Last month, Omanga was named Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year. He earned Player of the Week honors three times, and recorded six multiple goal games during the 2013 season. His 10 game-winning were critical to leading the Penmen to its second championship in school history.<\/p>\n

Prior to his breakout year at SNHU,\u00a0the\u00a0French forward\u00a0spent the summer with GPS Portland Phoenix.\u00a0In 13 games for the Phoenix, he scored seven goals and added two assists to help the squad reach the\u00a0PDL playoffs.<\/p>\n

Omanga transferred from University of Montevallo (Ala.)\u00a0to SNHU prior to the 2013 season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
