Believe it or not, but Shalrie Joseph is back\u00a0with the New England\u00a0Revolution. At least for the time being.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, revolutionsoccer.net’s Jeff Lemiuex confirmed that the former skipper is one of two new preseason trialists (former Vancouver midfielder Daigo Kobayashi the other)\u00a0in camp with the club in Tucson, Ariz.<\/p>\n

Yes, Shalrie Joseph is indeed in #NERevs<\/a> camp as a trialist. Wearing number 47, could be available tonight vs. Chivas USA.<\/p>\n

Coincidentally, the Revolution are set to play Chivas USA – the team Joseph was traded to back in Aug. 2012 – on Saturday\u00a0in\u00a0a Desert Diamond Cup clash, and the longtime defensive midfielder could see action as soon as then.<\/p>\n

The question, of course,\u00a0is how serious\u00a0the Revolution\u00a0are about\u00a0acquiring Joseph.\u00a0The 35-year-old center half remains\u00a0under contract with the Seattle Sounders, but is coming off his worst season to date\u00a0in MLS.\u00a0In 2013, Joseph\u00a0struggled with injuries and\u00a0fitness, and\u00a0was limited to playing 10 games for Seattle last year, scoring only one goal. He never started more than two straight games, and\u00a0did not see action in the club’s final 11 matches.<\/p>\n

Last month, Sounders coach Sigi Schmid publicly\u00a0conceded that Joseph, who\u00a0reportedly took a\u00a0pay cut\u00a0to allow\u00a0Seattle to sign\u00a0Clint Dempsey last summer,\u00a0probably wouldn\u2019t return for a second season in the Emerald City.<\/p>\n

\u201cShalrie is still a member of our team, but right now he\u2019s not really in our plans,\u201d Schmid told the media last month. \u201cAs we move forward, we\u2019ll see how that resolves itself. I\u2019m not sure what the ultimate resolution will be, but right now he\u2019s not in our plans for this season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Joseph, who was\u00a0originally drafted by the Revolution in 2002,\u00a0still holds the club record for career\u00a0appearances (261)\u00a0and minutes (22,867). He was named to eight MLS All-Star rosters during his nine seasons in New England, and\u00a0was a fan favorite. He was traded to Chivas USA on Aug. 1, 2012 for Blair Gavin, a 2013 second round pick and allocation money.<\/p>\n

If Joseph does see action\u00a0in Saturday’s preseason clash, he will don the #47 jersey.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
