With Saturday\u2019s\u00a0clash between\u00a0the New England Revolution (0-2-1,\u00a01 point)\u00a0and\u00a0San Jose Earthquakes (0-1-1,\u00a01 point)\u00a0at\u00a0venerable Buck Shaw Stadium\u00a0only hours away, let\u2019s take one last look at what the coaches and players were saying in the days leading up to it.<\/p>\n

Revolution coach Jay Heaps:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re a very physical team, a very dangerous team at all times. No matter what the score is, no matter what the game situation is, they\u2019re dangerous and they\u2019ve got guys like Chris Wondolowski, Steven Lenhart, Alan Gordan and Shea Salinas is playing really well for them right now. So, when those guys are on the field, there\u2019s a chance they can score at any time.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to be sound defensively. We have to cover each other because it\u2019s not always the first ball that breaks you down, it\u2019s the second ball, it\u2019s usually a flighted ball in and the second ball is either nodded on by Lenhart to Wondolowski or wide to Atiba Harris or Shea Salinas so they\u2019re very dangerous on the runs off the first ball. It\u2019s very important that guys don\u2019t get stuck ball watching and that we\u2019re reactive to second balls.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Earthquakes center back Clarence Goodson (via mlssoccer.com):<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI think it’s going to be great to have a full week of training. We have had a lot of guys out. I think we will get a lot of guys back and even if we don’t, it will be good to go through a full week of training with the guys that are playing together. I think the guys have done a good job and stepped up, but to have a full week of training makes a world of difference and of course we are a different team in San Jose.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Revolution\u00a0center back A.J. Soares:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cYou gotta know what they\u2019re good at and you gotta try and limit that. Obviously, like, don\u2019t foul them in their attacking third, so that and keeping the ball hopefully going forward and getting good pressure to the ball. So we if we can alter their service to their front four guys, then it makes the back line\u2019s job easier and you can kind of read where the ball is going to be. If we do get good pressure to the ball, and if we do those things, we\u2019ll be fine.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
