A second half Kristie Mewis goal allowed the Boston Breakers to cap a trying campaign with a 1-0 win over the Houston Dash in Sunday’s season finale at Harvard Stadium.<\/p>\n

Mewis unknotted a scoreless match in the 77th minute, while Alyssa Naeher kept the sheet clean for the third time this season.<\/p>\n

The win allows the Breakers, who went 6-16-2 (20 points) in 2014, to escape a last place finish. The loss doomed the expansion Dash, who finished the season with a 5-15-3 (18 points) mark, to a spot at the bottom of the NWSL table.<\/p>\n

After the sides went into halftime unable to get on the board, the hosts found the break through in the waning stages – and it came as no surprise that Heather O’Reilly had a hand in it.<\/p>\n

The National Team stalwart crossed it far post for Mewis, who converted it in\u00a0the 77th minute to lift the supporters from their seats.<\/p>\n
